Not only paranormal things scare. Think for yourself: whether the little girl in a white dress is frightened? And if it is midnight and the cemetery? Exactly. The most banal things can also be frightened. It all depends only on the circumstances.

A talented writer becomes popular and cult due to the fact that he was able to bring something new to the genre and excite the minds of readers. Frenke Herbert told the world about how global there can be fantasy, and how can you skillfully invest the dogmas of religion, revealing both its good and bad sides. Howard Phillips Lovecraft showed all readers the vastness of the universe and the fact that somewhere there, beyond, are the entities that the human mind is not even able to realize. So ancient and powerful that the characters of his works could not even describe them with words. Only emotions overwhelmed them before death. Lovecraft taught us what to scare even what we do not see. The reader’s mind himself will draw up what is the worst of all for him, and the writer should only sow the seeds of horror. Lovecraft became a real master of horrors, creating even a certain squeal of literature – Lovecraftian. It was precisely by this backstage that Stephen King was inspired when he was just starting to think about writing his novels. But the main thing here is that he was only inspired, thus, simply paying tribute to the great author. Stephen did not steal ideas. He came up with something of his. What scares and excites readers still. Stephen King began to scare the most ordinary things, endowing with paranormal abilities, it would seem, the most banal things. Those things that surround the reader every day in everyday life. A car from the novel "Kristina", a hotel from the book "Shine" and a cemetery from the work "Cemetery of Pets". At the same time, Stephen King always keeps behind the scenes some phantasmagoric entities that control these banal objects, never showing them to the reader, forcing them to think, and subconsciously are afraid that the same essence can stand behind the TV in the room, or a park near the school. This writer has an amazing opportunity to endow with amazing abilities that any other person would not even come. An amazing invisible connection between four friends and a boy with Down syndrome in the novel “Dream Catcher” or the bright magic of the seven from the “Club of Losers” in the book “It”. It would seem that unremarkable things, but Stephen woves them so masterfully into the plot that you begin to believe that an invisible essence can be defeated with the help of, we can say, improvised means. Thus, the writer leaves the reader a thin ray of light so that he has the opportunity to get out of this world of nightmares, because Stephen himself got stuck in him with his head.

Such a large lyrical digression was simply necessary, since Alan Wake is a kind of tribe of Stephen King and his whole work. The game will constantly refer to the writer as part of the plot, drawing parallels between the main character and writer, because they live in the same world and act as colleagues. But we will look at all this much wider. We will take a look at how masterfully the Finnish studio Remedy was able to feel the essence of the king’s novels and convey the very atmosphere of the horror of ordinary and everyday magic as part of his game. Strive comfortably, because you will find a long journey to a small town of American outback called Bright Fols. In a favorite place Stephen King. In such a town where everyone knows much more than the main character. Where something is wrong with it has long been going on, but ordinary people try not to pay attention to it. In such a town where the character can only rely on himself. It will be a long and dark journey. Ask yourself if you are ready for this?

The plot of Alan Wake, if not masterpiece, is very close to this concept. Of course, I am now reasoning only within the framework of the works of the "horror" genre. For all the patterns, the scenario of the game pays tribute to Stephen King, constantly holding the player in ignorance, pushing to thoughts on what is happening here. The player is constantly surrounded by characters who know more than he, but do not want to tell, and if they begin to speak, they broadcast with some riddles. And we will definitely talk about this a little later, because now there are other urgent questions. I cannot but note the fact that the plot is very difficult to understand. Perhaps many of you have realized the whole essence of what is happening after the first time, but for this I needed several passages with a difference of a couple of years. The story is much deeper than it seems, and now we will try to find out thoroughly in everything in order to set up all points over the “and”, and then go directly to the analysis.

So, 1970 in the town of Bright Falls. A poet and a diver named Thomas Zane and his beloved wife Barbara Jagger lives in a house on Lake Coldron. They live in peace and harmony, and it seems that nothing can affect their perfect life.

When Thomas Zane fell in love with Barbara Jagger, this happened rapidly. She was young, beautiful and full of life. Thomas had never before was especially happy, and Barbara changed this with one wave of her hand. Zane has never been so good. Everything that Barbara did became another detail of the puzzle, which it turns out to him, so lacked his whole life. And what was best – words with her flowed in a powerful stream, strong and bright. Barbara was his muse ".

But everything rolls to hell when Barbara dies. She falls into the lake and begins to sink. In attempts to save her, Thomas Zane dives followed, but does not have time to save his love. He goes to the bottom of the lake, where he finds a strange dark substance. And, lo and about the miracle, this substance knows how to talk. She tells Thomas that the lake has mysterious properties, thanks to which talented people can rewrite the events that are happening around. They can distort reality so much that even they are able to resurrect a person. The dark essence promises that he will return Thomas Barbara, but he will have to write a story for her. It is on such conditions that the agreement is concluded. Thomas writes, and Barbara really returns. The poet cannot be bought by this outcome of events, only his happiness did not last long. Gradually, Thomas understands that this is an empty shell in which there is nothing from Barbara. This is just a body that is trying to be friendly and smiling like his Barbara, but in all her warm words there was some kind of catch.

Thomas cannot live like this anymore and therefore makes the most difficult decision in his life.

Zane cut out a heart from the creature, but she still did not die. The creature with the face of Barbara still cooled about cute trifles, but the poison was mixed in the sugary sweetness. He put on a suit and untied the monster from the chair. The creature was fluttered weakly, but Thomas held it tight. He went outside, walked to the very edge of the pier and stepped into dark water, plunging deeper into a tiny spot, but never reached the bottom.

But before that he made some more decision. Thomas hoped that he stopped the dark essence, but deep down he did not believe in it. He felt that everything could be repeated, but with a completely different main character.

Thomas Zane knew: he must destroy everything that this horror made possible, including himself. This was the only way to expel the dark essence that he released into the wild, and which now looked at him from the eyes of his dead lover. But he also knew that, despite all his efforts, she could someday return, and although he deleted himself and his work from being, he added a loophole-to guarantee, exclusion from the rule. Everything that he kept in the shoe box will remain.

Zane could not die, since it was no longer Lake Coldron. Before that, it was something bright. The place that allowed to work miracles. But Thomas Zane, thanks to his strength, called the dark essence into our world, prescribing it in reality. And now it was not just a dark slurry at the bottom. It was a powerful universal force, which, fortunately, was still constrained by a brave divers, who realized their mistake. And this diver was forced to immerse endlessly deeper and deeper into the darkness of the lake, while the dark essence itself has a little doomed.

But only a little, because in 1976 a group of rockers appeared, which was founded by two brothers-one and Thur Andersen. They created excellent music, which could also change reality. Darkness woke up for a while, again tasting a drop of freedom. But only a drop, because the triumph did not last long.

For decades, the darkness, which had the appearance of Barbara Jagger, was dozing in the dark monastery that served her by both the house and the prison. She knew only hunger and pain. In a dream, she again and again experienced the night of the celebration, when poetic inspiration raised her from the depths and allowed her to gain power and freedom for several terrible moments. Rock stars disturbed a dream in which the poet eventually plunged it. And when she felt on the ferry of the writer, she woke up.

So, Alan Vake arrives in the city with his wife, who convinced him to relax in a shitty American town in order to gain some ideas. Unfortunately, not everything is so simple. Poor Alice notices how her husband gradually rolls along an inclined. Since he completed his cycle of books about the famous detective, having killed it, he can no longer write a line. He drinks, sometimes rowlars, attracting unpleasant attention to the public. And does not even try to start working. Alice will decide to help her husband. She is looking for a doctor who specializes in eliminating problems in creative people. This doctor is Emil Hartman, who owns a specialized clinic in Bright Fols. He also offers to bring Alan to the city. Alice books Karl Staka House and, together with her husband, they go to a cozy small town.

But Dr. Emil Hartman is not as simple as it seems at first glance. He is aware of what is happening in the city, in particular about what properties Lake Koldron possesses. He needs a special creative person in order to change reality for himself. He does not really know how the lake works and what is happening, but he knows that all this is real. It was for this that he created the clinic in order to find broken creative people and, under the guise of medicine, give them instructions on how to create correctly in this city.

Hartman knew that he was not a creator. He did not have ambitious aspirations in this area. And he really did not want to finish like all representatives of the creative professions with whom he worked here: with an unthinkably mutilated soul, if not worse. For Hartman, it was quite to exercise creative control and give direction. Be a "producer". In any case, most of these people needed precisely this. Of course, suitable objects were extremely rare.

Hartman is deceiving Alice and she brings her husband to the city, where Hartmann is already ready for a plan. His partner – a man named Mott – will have to trace the Veykov family to the very house and abduct Alice there, so that Alan began to write a story for Hartman. The doctor brought his partner to follow Alan and Alice at the very beginning, however, the player of this, most likely, did not even notice.

After watching the writer on a ferry, Mott felt disappointment. From a conversation with the boss, he concluded that Wake is something out of himself. But no, nothing special. But Mott admired his wife. He dreamed of provoking Vake to a fight, but the case never had. Nothing, he will still check what this writer is worth. They promised it to him.

In the city, Alice sends Alan to meet with Karl Staka, from whom he should pick up the keys from the rented house. In the diner, Alan Vake first meets with characters who, one way or another, will meet him further. But we are most interested in a waitress named Rose, who will play several important roles in the future. A young romantic girl crazy about a writer. So crazy that she even took his cardboard figure from a bookstore.

Rose knew that she was too talking, but she did not care. She was firmly convinced that a brief meeting with Alan Wakek was the best that had ever happened to her. She watched her wife getting into the car together. How beautiful she is, confident, how easy, unlike Rose, she holds with a wake. They were an ideal couple. She would give her soul, if only to be called a friend.

The sweet girl did not even suspect how the words could be prophetic and how much the dark essence would use them.

The narrative in Alan Wake is built in such a way that they constantly hide something interesting from the player. A huge part of the story is hidden in the pages of the manuscript, which are scattered throughout the game in the form of kolektebls. These can be interesting facts, the links of the plot or banal clarifications that even make fleeting characters alive. So, the waitress Rose and the career of the park grow. What unites them? At first glance, nothing, but if you dig deeper and explore the world, you can understand that unrequited love has become their leitmotif.

Before consciousness left to grow, he thought about Rose. He was older than the girl: he was barely twenty. But next to her, he felt young and forgot what disaster turned out to be his long -destroyed marriage. To grow still wore a wedding ring. He waited for the girl to remove him. This will never happen.

For me this is an example of a good study of the world.

Alan goes to the toilet, since, according to Rose, Mr. Staka is there. Along the way, he meets a sweet old woman with a lantern, who advises the writer not to go into darkness, because it is dangerous there. The old woman’s name is Cynthia Weaver, and we will return to her. In the toilet we are met by another old woman who is dressed in black. She claims that Karl could not come to a meeting with him, but she brought the keys and instructions on how to get to the cottage on the lake. For Alan, everything looks ordinary, but the player understands that this is not an ordinary old woman. We know that this is a dark essence in the guise of Barbara Jagger.

Although she wore a human form, he meant to call the dark essence of a reasonable way to apply the human concept to what was completely alien to everything human. Nevertheless, she found the only enough dark place in the entire snack. The light pouring into the corridor terribly tormented her, but she endured her. The writer will soon fix the situation. He goes to the only place where the power still belonged to her.

So, the dark essence lured the wake family on the lake and stole Alice. Alan dives behind her in the abyss of the lake, but does not have time to save, after which he pops up to the surface, where he sees the old woman again. He does not care that this is the same grandmother that he met. He does not remember her. The main thing is that she says that Alice can be returned. She points to the house where Alan is in a hurry, straight to the printing machine. The dark essence changes tactics and begins to blame the writer of that it was because of him Alice died, forcing him to experience his terrible guilt. And I remind you that all this is already happening in a dark monastery – the place where the dark essence refuels everyone. Alan only seems that he surfaced to the surface and everything is fine. Obsessed with the desire to save his wife, he begins to write.

The dark essence touched the girl to lure the writer in a trap. Now it was night, and he lay a helpless, stupefied, illuminated only by reflections of interference from the TV screen. The shadows were thickening in the room when the dark essence leaned toward the writer, ready to touch him again: "For work, guy".

Also, do not forget about Motta, who was looking for a family of wakes. He had no reason to follow them, because, firstly, this would attract excessive attention to his person, and, secondly, he already knew that they would be in one of Karl Staka’s houses. But the dark essence confused him and his accomplice all the cards, not allowing the girl to abduct.

MOTT checked all the removable cottages stacks. There were no wakes anywhere. It was already dark when he discovered their car parked at the end of the road by Lake Koldron. It was some kind of nonsense. The wakes must have been turned off the wrong way, but there were no trace, and the car was clearly stuck here for more than an hour. Annoyed, Mott stood on the rotten remains of the pedestrian bridge, which once led to the island of the dive-before the island went under water many years ago. Boss will not like it.

Alan continued to write, being captured by the dark essence. He writes his novel called “Leaving”, hoping that at the end he will save Alice and everything will be fine with them. He enters himself on the pages of the novel, but erases his memory, so that everything that happens for him is a surprise. Darkness should not suspect what he entered in history and something else. Something capable of stopping her. Alan enters the history of Thomas Zeyn, who could appear and illuminate the house, thus giving the writer a chance to escape. Alan, all exhausted, gets into the car and leaves. But because of the rolled fatigue, he loses consciousness and has an accident. After all, Alan worked without stopping within seven days. For seven days he simply fell out of reality, and others did not even notice that he began to change her.

Hartman has never been so worried as it was a week after Mott managed to lose Vakeikov. Their car stood at the trail, which once led to the island of the divers. Hartman thought about the house of Thomas Zeyn, plunged into the depths of the lake. Vake is about to start writing. They need to be found, and as soon as possible. As soon as Hartman heard on a police wave that the sheriff Braker delayed Vake, he immediately got into the car and rushed into the city.

Parallel to this, he contacts Mott. It is not known how, but the doctor sniffed that Alan’s wife was gone. Perhaps I read on one of the pages, since in his office there was a large number of them. After the touches of the dark essence, Rose plunged into dreams, where everything was drawn in black and white. An elderly lady promised that her desires would come true. She will become a Muse of Alan Vake. Rose smiled so widely that it hurt. She overturned the contents of the bubble with sleeping pills in coffee. And deep inside the girl screamed with horror.

And after that, an agent of Netingale appears on the stage. To be honest, passing the game for the first time, I don’t even understand why it is needed. Judge for yourself, the FBI agent appears from nowhere and has a large tooth on the writer. So large that the foundingale begins to shoot at Alan, even risking to get into a civilian. And this despite the fact that the writer did not take any sharp actions. The foundingale for no apparent reason constantly pursues Vake, motivating this with some terrible crime for which he must be caught. Here are just no information about what the writer has done. There is not even a hint. And the Nightingale always answered the direct questions, or even left the answer at all. And then it dawned on me. Alan wiped his memory for a reason. Darkness should not have guessed that he knew how to win her. She should think that everything goes according to her plan, and she becomes more and more, and the escape of Vake is a minor misunderstanding. And so that she had no reason to doubt her omnipotence Alan inscribed in the history of agent findingale. A character who, for no apparent reason, pursues a hero and does not allow him to relax. He was needed in order to observe the balance of darkness and light. From the final minutes of the game, we know that Thomas Zeyn disdained this rule, violating the balance. For this he paid. Alan did not want such an outcome for himself, so I decided to play by the rules. He called on Barry, and in contrast, he created a foundingale. The balance of power is observed and, most importantly, for darkness all this looks like a whole picture. Like, so everything should be.

The most interesting thing is that the Netingale is most likely a completely fictional character without the past. If Alan simply distorted the world with Barry, calling a real person, then the foundingel was written from scratch. He does not know anything about himself and constantly drinks. Classic character of the boulevard thriller. And Mr. Wake Master of such literature.

He has already seen this moment. I read about it on the page. Nightingale was seized by the feeling of “dejavu” and the horror of awareness: he was the hero of the story written by someone.

Nightingale tried to find meaning in the manuscript. She was strange and incoherent. The agent did not even understand half, but everything looked likely. To the impossibility of believable. In addition, it was this woman who was engaged in laying out boxes with useful supplies, indications of which are visible only in the ray of a flashlight. She knew that it would be useful to someone.

Cynthia Weaver worked hard, following her manic rituals. Sometimes she fought with herself, but in the end she always surrendered. Like a ghost, she wandered into the halls of an abandoned power plant Bright Falls. She noted the caches with reflective paint, which could only notice the eyes touched by the darkness and saved by light – the same as Cynthia itself. Strengthened the line of defense and made stocks in case of war, which, Cynthia knew, would certainly begin. And it will be a war between the forces of light and darkness.

Cynthia Weaver is a woman who personally knew Tomasa Zane and Barbaru Jagger. She fan from Zane and his work, and also greatly envied Barbara. So envious that she was even a little happy when she drowned in the lake. But still she was the person who was completely trusted by Thomas. Probably the only one besides Barbara. Before removing himself from reality, he came to Cynthia and told her the whole truth, entrusting a certain key to guard. Thomas reinforced that one day someone would appear behind this key. Cynthia equipped a fully lit room and kept the key there, constantly monitoring the quality of the bulbs, so that even a tiny shadow would not originate in that room.

So, in the room Alan finds the Nutcracker – the thing that his mother gave him as a child. A thing that, allegedly, went to her from the father of a boy whom he had never seen. The thing that Alan gave for a very long time, and which for some reason was here right now. But, in addition to the Nutcracker, there is also a sheet of autobiography, in which it is just that the mother gave Alana this thing. Here it is only written on behalf of Thomas Zane. Alan says that this is completely impossible, because Zane eliminated himself from reality.

Cynthia Weaver.

The theory is walking on the network that Thomas Zane completely wrote the story of Alan. Supposedly, even the writer himself is only the fruit of Zane’s fantasy, whom he came up with the complete destruction of darkness. Needless to say, she is a little stupid? Pages indicate that he, on the contrary, tried in every possible way to correct what he had already done. And theorists suggest that he dared to compete again with darkness? It is unlikely.

True, there is another theory that claims that Thomas Zane is a biological father of Alan, who threw him with his mother and went to live in Bright Fols. But this is generally the complete nonsense of fanfics lovers.

What really happened? Before leaving, Thomas Zane prescribed in this world a weapon against the dark essence, which had no guise, and left mentioning this in the only box. This something was supposed to be in a box at Cynthia Weaver, which was supposed to protect all this. But, as I understand it, the very essence of this subject was ephemeral and Alan, while writing the plot, it was necessary to give this subject a certain form. And, since in childhood he believed in the magical properties of the Nutcracker, he gave him this form. The phrase of Alan plays into the hands of such a thought: "Zane entered him into reality … in the story that I invented". But perhaps this twist was not completely clear to me, so I would not refuse your assumptions in the comments.

In any case, Alan understands how to defeat the dark essence.

The novel that I wrote in the house came to life. Under the influence of the dark essence, I wrote a horror novel, but he still had no end. The novel was not completed, and the last, unwritten page of the manuscript stuck out in the writing machine of the house. If I could only return there if I had only read that page – I would write my own ending of the novel and Save Alice.

In a dark monastery, Mr. Wake uses a Nutcracker to fill the Barbara Jagger shell with light. Thus, the writer drives her out of this world and she can no longer interfere with the end of the work. The writer sits down behind the machine and reads the last sheet. Thanks to Thomas’s notes that he read earlier, Alan understands what Zeyna’s mistake was. The poet simply wanted happiness, without giving anything in return. There should be a balance in everything. If there is a dark essence, then there should be a lady of light. If you call on your ally to the aid, then the darkness should also have a trustee. If you want to save your love, then you need to sacrifice something. Alan begins to write the last page, with which it unwathers time in Bright Falls back. Thanks to this, the entire section of time completely disappears during which events took place with the dark essence. All the characters that suffered from the manuscript of Alan returned to the pristine state. But, of course, certain edits were made for the balance. So, now Rose has become Lady Light in order to protect the new key, and the foundingale has become a new container of the dark essence, because it cannot be completely removed from this world. But, most importantly, he saves Alice. Alan understands that a miracle needs a victim, so he locks himself in a dark monastery, freeing his beloved wife, because everything has his own price.

At the end, Alan pronounces the phrase “this is not a lake. This is the ocean "that can be interpreted in two. The first explanation – Alan realized that the dark essence lives not only in the lake. It exists in many places of this world and the fact that the writer temporarily defeated this piece, does not mean anything yet. The second explanation is that Alan understood the boundaries of opportunities. Since, during the writings in Bright Fols, he influenced Barry and he came, would the writer be able to change the whole world? Can he become something like God within this world. Personally, of course, I tend to the first option.

The second phrase belongs to Alice, and she asks Alan to wake up. And many theorists immediately came up with a bunch of hypotheses that Alan actually had an accident and is now in a coma. Like, this is all his brain invented, and we are deep in the writer’s subconscious. Well, they tried in vain, because this phrase is just an eyeliner to DLC, where the writer, one might say, really fell asleep.

Alan added his novel “Leaving” and he had a nervous breakdown. The writer analyzes his actions and understands that almost everything that happened in this city happened because of him. If he had not freed, then Alice would not leave one in the house, and the dark essence would not have been dragged by her. Moreover, if he had not built himself as a sufferer, he would not have driven himself into a creative crisis, as a result of which they had to come to Bright Fols. Alan is very rooted in what happened. Therefore, his consciousness is split into two entities: one of them lies in a half -timer in the house and wants to forever stay in the world of a dark monastery, and the second wants to survive, so he experiences the nightmare written in the dark version of Bright Fols.

It is amazing that in two story add -ons Alan was put up by a villain, demonstrating all his complexes and psychological instability. During the passage, we will encounter various manifestations of its self -flagellation. In one shot, it is able to create an extremely bright spot of light, thanks to which darkness will not only be destroyed, but the carcasses themselves will also disappear, riding you from the need to shoot them. Light-shum grenades act according to the same principle: threw and forgot about all the enemy at a fairly large distance. But the fake is designed for defense. The fact is that there are a lot of opponents and, often, they creep on from different sides. It is in such cases that this little thing is useful. She creates a long spot of light, because of which opponents cannot approach you. At this time, you will have time to “burn” one or two enemies and shoot them. It is worth noting that opponents under the influence of darkness are not susceptible to bullets, so “burning” is simply necessarily.

Well, the moment with the defense of the scene for the song Poets of the Fall is simply amazing both from the point of view of the production and from the side of the gameplay, because the enemies have been pushing from all sides for a long time and Alana needs to fight back from them.

At the same time, in additions, the developers did not neglect innovations and added several new mechanics. Well, like a mechanic, special scenes, thanks to which the gameplay changes slightly. Now Alan remembers exactly that he is in the work, which means that the words from the manuscript come up here and there, which, when contacting the light, are materialized.
